This refers to a woman who undergoes the treatment with the clear intention of giving away her eggs in order to help infertile couples.
This is the most common situation. The donor is presented by a couple who need an egg donation to have a chance at conceiving a child. In certain circumstances a known donation is the only alternative, e.g. if the donor is older than 35 or if it is a question of skin color.
The donor is doing it for an anonymous acceptor. Unlike sperm donation, where anonymous volunteer donation is the rule rather than the exception, volunteer anonymous egg donors are extremely hard to find.
In this third form of donation you can anonymously help a girlfriend or family member to obtain oocytes. You will take the role of a known donor giving oocytes to the oocyte bank. In exchange the acceptor receives oocytes from another anonymous donor from the oocyte bank. This allows us to guarantee anonymity for both the donor and the acceptor, a situation which is preferable to a donation with a known donor. This is important because a lot can happen in a person's life, and if the lives of the various parties are strongly intertwined a delicate subject like donation can cause conflicts or even relationship breakdowns over the years.
The main advantage for the acceptor is that she is able to receive help more quickly as a result.
